How to deliver your session for mixing and mixing workflow

If you wish to send the full session file from your DAW, I accept project files from ProTools, Studio One, and Reaper. I may not have 100% of the plug-ins you are using, so if you are intent on preserving your rough mix as the starting point, please freeze your insert effects, and render your FX sends before sending the session. If your project is within a different DAW such as Logic or Ableton, you will need to export the individual tracks from your project. If you need any technical assistance in doing so, I will be happy to hop on a call to help sort that out.

When sending tracks as audio files (often referred to as stems) it is a best-practice to send a wet and dry version of the vocals. Leaving your insert effects is ok, but it is preferred that any spatial effects like reverb and delay are done using an FX send, rather than having it on the individual track inserts. This way, the reverb or delay will be on a separate track from the dry signal, and can be mixed independent of each other for best results. Please deactivate any mastering plugins or limiters from your master bus prior to export as well. Be sure to send your stems as WAVE or AIFF (24 bit or 32 bit float is preferred), and be sure to include a demo or rough mix of the project in the folder for reference.

To deliver files, the preferred method is a shared Dropbox folder, but I will happily accept WeTransfer, Google Drive, and any other file transfer service.

Once work begins, I will send all mix passes as 320 kbps mp3 files until final mix approval, and deliver the final mix as a 44.1khz or 48khz/24 bit or 32 bit WAVE file upon receipt of payment. If you have any specific formats you wish the file to be delivered in, that can be done at no additional cost.

I will deliver the mixed instrumental and vocal acapella separately, along with any alternate mix versions, and can provide show versions, mixed stems, and edits for publishing as-needed.

I do not place any specific limits on the number of mix revisions (within reason), and will do everything possible to make sure all parties are satisfied with the end result!

Your project will be archived indefinitely after completion, but it is the sole responsibility of the client to make long-term arrangements for redundant back up of their projects. I do not have unlimited archive/cloud storage, and cannot be held liable for lost or corrupt projects held many years after completion. This is a general best-practice many artists overlook, and it is always good to ensure intellectual property remains redundantly backed-up and within the owner’s possession, not just with the mix engineer.
